Sage Francis Announcement

Posted: March 3rd, 2010 | Author: Wyatt | Filed under: Downloads | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

New Sage Francis album drops May 11th, 2010! He is also going on tour, so catch him in your area if you get a chance.

THE MUSIC

Musically Li(f)e is refreshingly unique. Francis’ biting and sardonic wordplay now further empowered by talented musicians including producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine) and Jim Becker and Tim Rutili of acclaimed Chicago outfit Califone.

Francis has also enlisted a roster of uniquely talented songwriters including ex Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle, Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie, Tim Fite, members of Calexico, DeVotchKa, and Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse – each of whose compositions were then interpreted by Francis and the band. The result is a challenging and defiantly honest new album from an ever evolving artist.

THE TOUR

Sage Francis will be performing songs from Li(f)e at the upcoming South By Southwest Festival on Tuesday March 18 at The Independent, 501 Studios, 501 Brushy Street at 12:30 am.

Francis will then be embarking on a North American tour beginning with B. Dolan and Free Moral Agents starting this May.

Catch Sage Francis in Calgary @ The Distillery on Saturday, May 29th!!!

The Random Humans

The Random Humans are an alternative hip-hop group who have just recently appeared on the scene. Made up of MC Deception from Longview, Alberta and DJ/Producer Beatsmith Bear from Vancouver, B.C., these Canadian artists truly know the meaning of real hip-hop. MC Deception started making a name for himself in Alberta, then suddenly moved to Vancouver where he met Bear and started turning heads. Deception’s masterfully crafted metaphors and references shine through perfectly on Bear’s original and crisp beats. Currently, The Random Humans have only released one self-titled EP with 3 songs, but Deception has a catalog of older material which can be found here (You’ll have to sign up which is free and quick).

The first track on the EP, “Can’t Escape” starts the disc with a darker tone and a menacing bass-line. Decep comes in with a darker style than his earlier joints and lays down some ill verses about the global economic situation, and the chorus is perfect with an ominous hymn in the background. The second track, “Like Yesterday” starts in with a dope whistle and a lighter tone, then moves into the chorus and changes pace. The last track on the EP, “What You Do” is a perfect example of what these two are capable of. The lyrics and flow are flawless and the production is perfect. Check it out below. All in all, the EP is worth your time and if you get a chance, grab it! You can check these songs out at The Random Humans Myspace.

Deception also has a solo album that he recorded while in Vancouver, called “Under False Creek”. Definitely check that out too if you get a chance. Here are a couple more of my favorite early Deception tracks.

Calgary local artist Geeze ripping it up on this track. Geeze is an up-and-comer so keep your ears close to the ground if you want to hear more of this kid. This show was at The Gallery on 17th avenue. Props to Geeze for shouting out my shit, “I miss chillin in Hook’s Underground Basement!”
Check it out.
