New verse from Slug (of Atmosphere fame) courtesy Rhymesayers. Different sounding song and his verse isn’t until later on in the song, but whatever it’s still dope.
The Random Humans are an alternative hip-hop group who have just recently appeared on the scene. Made up of MC Deception from Longview, Alberta and DJ/Producer Beatsmith Bear from Vancouver, B.C., these Canadian artists truly know the meaning of real hip-hop. MC Deception started making a name for himself in Alberta, then suddenly moved to Vancouver where he met Bear and started turning heads. Deception’s masterfully crafted metaphors and references shine through perfectly on Bear’s original and crisp beats. Currently, The Random Humans have only released one self-titled EP with 3 songs, but Deception has a catalog of older material which can be found here (You’ll have to sign up which is free and quick).
The first track on the EP, “Can’t Escape” starts the disc with a darker tone and a menacing bass-line. Decep comes in with a darker style than his earlier joints and lays down some ill verses about the global economic situation, and the chorus is perfect with an ominous hymn in the background. The second track, “Like Yesterday” starts in with a dope whistle and a lighter tone, then moves into the chorus and changes pace. The last track on the EP, “What You Do” is a perfect example of what these two are capable of. The lyrics and flow are flawless and the production is perfect. Check it out below. All in all, the EP is worth your time and if you get a chance, grab it! You can check these songs out at The Random Humans Myspace.
Deception also has a solo album that he recorded while in Vancouver, called “Under False Creek”. Definitely check that out too if you get a chance. Here are a couple more of my favorite early Deception tracks.
First up I’ma hit you with a track from RJD2′s new album “The Colossus”. This track features The Catalyst, Illogic and NP on a well-crafted RJ beat with some hard-hitting rhymes. Check out Illogic’s insane solar system metaphors. Download below.
Finally as a bonus, Ill Poetic dropped off a link to download all of the instrumentals from Illogic’s recent album “Diabolical Fun”, released March 24, 2009 on Weightless Recordings.
Throwback Thursday this week is only a couple years old but I was listening to it earlier and damn is it fresh. The track is called Dinosaurs Anthem by iCON the Mic King.
K.Flay is easily one of my favorite emcees as of late, and this is her free mixtape. You can get it from her website here. It is called MASHed Potatoes and was released on September 20th of last year. Here are two of my favorite songs from MASHed, if you are skeptical of downloading the whole thing (which you shouldn’t be).
From the guy that brought you the “Portishead/Budden” and “NIN/Outkast” mash-ups:
“Simply put, I’m a huge Sade fan. I started work on this remix over 7 years ago. Upon hearing about the release of “Soldier of Love”, I figured now would be the time to release this. A Part of me is doing this from a promotional standpoint. But, honestly, the bigger part of me (and anyone who knows me can attest) is doing this as a fan of Sade, the singer and the band. Sade, to me, represents one of the last artists I can be a strict fan of. A legend, a myth. The more we all exist in this music industry, it’s easy to get lost in the business of music. Sade is my reminder of what makes beautiful music so beautiful. She is the perfect reminder of why music is a soundtrack to an Experience. That’s why I made this remix. If you’re a fan of Sade, then this is one fan’s take on her music, given to the rest of her fans who’d like to listen. – Ill Poetic”
Ill Poetic just sent this one over to me so I thought I would kick off the re-invigoration of the Hideout with it. Very mellow track, not even fully classifiable as hip-hop, but definitely a nice song that is definitely worth listening to. Below is a link to download the track, aswell as an Illogic track produced by Ill Poetic. Stay tuned for more great tracks!
