Jay Electronica

Jay Electronica is an up-and-coming emcee and producer from New Orleans. He is widely praised for his lyrical style and music which sometimes use samples from film soundtracks, such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. Although he hasn’t released a full-length album, his library of songs is already growing, with some of his most popular songs being “Act 1: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (The Pledge)”“, “Exhibit A” and “Exhibit C”. Active in large online communities, Jay somehow seems to stay below the radar while still staying on everyones minds. There are a number of projects with his name attached to them such as a 9th Wonder collabo called “Big Brother”, as well as music with Just Blaze, Guilty Simpson and more. If you are sleeping on this cat, you are missing out tremendously.

Here’s a little hip-hop quotable from the man himself, from the track Exibit A:

I spit that, wonder rhymer shit, me and my conglomerates /
shall remain anonymous, caught up in the finest shit /
get that type of media coverage Obama get /
spit that Kurt Vonnegut, that blow your brain, Kurt Cobain, that Nirvana shit/
who gone bring the game back? who gone spit that Remo on the train tracks?
that gold rope, that 5 finger ring rap/
runnin with my same pack, you can find the Christ
where the lepers and the lames at.

Look out for more from Jay Electronica coming very soon. Act II is due to drop any day!

PackFM – Happy Days (produced by Tonedeff)

“Things have been so bad and people are so eager to just be satisfied that they lowered their standards for everything, but we can do better than that. Its like if a kid scrapes his knee and you give him a lolipop, he stops crying, but at some point you’re going to have to fix that wound.” – PackFM

Awesome new song by PackFM produced by Tonedeff about change and the lack thereof. Definitely worth your time everybody. There is also a clean version and an instrumental version up at QN5.

This is the first of a one-a-month, twelve-CD series from Madlib on his own imprint, Madlib Invazion. Madlib Medicine Show No. 1: Before The Verdict is a full 17-track hip-hop album with original tracks and “the OJ Simpson remixes” featuring Guilty Simpson. Consider it a prelude to Madlib & Guilty’s collab OJ Simpson. There are two brief guest appearances by MED and J Dilla, in a short, previously unreleased interlude dating back to his & Madlib’s first collaboration. An 8-page booklet with track list is included in the CD.

Disgusting Madlib beat on this one, this track is off his upcoming release, Madlib Medicine Show No. 1: Before The Verdict. You can order it here.

Bossasaurus – STFUYMCA [Mini-Review]

Posted: December 31st, 2009 | Author: Wyatt | Filed under: Downloads | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

On STFUYMCA, Bossasaurus set their sights on dismantling the pervasive creationist mythology distorting the story of their true heritage and ancestry. Set to a backdrop of invigorating original beats and remixes, unfounded claims about the origin of the universe, intelligent design and the age of are planet our laid to waste in the most entertaining manner imaginable: the incisive cuts of DJ H.O.P.. However, even if you and your granny believe Jesus rolled with a pet triceratops, you can still enjoy this collection undeniably dope music (ehhhh…maybe not.)

Bossasaurus’ release “Shove These Fossils Up Your Magnificient Creationist Ass”
starts off strong with a remix of one of my favorite tracks, Aesop Rock’s “None Shall Pass”. Although different, the beat stays true to Aesop’s lyricism and divine flow and
does not dissapoint. With Busta Rhymes up next, the sounds keep coming with a remix
of his “Dangerous” track off of Busta’s second album. The soundscape changes a bit with the third song, with a nice soul-filled remix of Goodie Mob’s “Soul Food”. The album progresses very nicely, with even more artists such as Murs, Redman and Method Man, A Tribe Called Quest, Bekay and more. Without a question this is fully worth your time, so check it out below. A deluxe physical edition of the project will be made available in January. Thanks a lot to Bossasaurus for sending this one over.

Jay Electronica – Exhibit C (Hasan Insane Remix) ft. Nas

I posted this original track awhile back in decent quality, then the full quality came out and I could have sworn I posted it but I can’t find it, so here is a remix to the absolutely stellar original of Jay Electronica’sExhibit C“. Nas’ verse comes in perfectly, and it all actually works together really well. This remix is by a dude by the name of Hasan Insane. It’s waaay too nice how he flipped the same sample for a different use. Check this out!

Brother Ali – Blizzard Rap ’09

Posted: December 26th, 2009 | Author: Wyatt | Filed under: Downloads | Tags: , , , , , , , | 3 Comments »

We had 15 inches of snow in Minnesota over the past few days. My holiday was over a month ago and I’ve been stuck in my house the last few days. To entertain myself, I chopped up a Kanye West song called “I’m So Appalled” and did a super rough homemade recording of some bars. This is what I do when I’m bored!

If you frequent pretty much any hip hop blog on the internet, you’ve definitely come across some shots taken by TONE. Now he’s beginning to produce short video profiles on musicians he knows in and around NYC. Like the video above, which showcases Homeboy Sandman and his song Not Pop. Good stuff, I’m already looking forward to the next one.
